THE POPE, “THE CHURCH SHOULD BRAVE AND STRAIGHTFORWARD WHEN SPEAKING” In Santa Marta, the Pope began his homely with the affirmation of Peter and John, “As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard”

“Christians announce bravely, and announcing Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit, is what keeps us going”. These are Pope Francis’s word during the Holy Mass in Santa Marta. The Pope started the homely with the words of Peter and John, from the Acts of the Apostles “As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard”. The two of them are imprisoned and they ask to God to announce his word frankly. “Today, the message of the Church – said the bishop of Rome – is to walk frankly and bravely the Christian path”. Peter and John had the same “parrhesia”, “a word that meant a lot in the beginning: not being afraid and speaking freely”

According to the Pope, “this bravery in announcing is what makes us different from proselytism. We do not make commercials, says Jesus Christ, in order to have more “members” in our “spiritual society”, do we? This is useless. This is useless, this is not Christianity”. He continued underlining that “only the Holy Spirit is able to make a change in our behavior, story and belonging”. It is the same force given to simple and uneducated people, so that they can announce Jesus Christ until their final testimony: martyrdom”. Pope Francis recalled that the Church, after Easter “is getting ready to receive the Holy Spirit”. “During the celebration of the mystery of the death and Resurrection of Jesus, we can recall all the history of our Salvation”
