The Islamic State targets Iraq and sends its militants to Baji, where 300 thousand barrels of fuel – about 50% of national requirement. This is the main source of the national energetic system.
The refinery is about 200 km away from Baghdad; it was attacked from three directions. In the south wing where there are the employees; in the west wing, where the derived materials are produced; and in the east wing, where three kamikaze were ready to explode. Just one of them succeeded, the Iraqi soldiers stopped the two others. The general officer of the army described the attack as one of the most violent since the Baghdadi forces defeated the jihadist siege.
The death toll is still uncertain, but some eyewitness said both parties lost people. There is a footage showing the military aviation deploying its forces in the skies, while a troop of vehicles pf the Caliphate parades to the refinery. The clashes are still ongoing and the Baghdadi army is trying to protect the building, half of which in the hands of the Caliphate.
