An enormous fire burst after the explosion – it was heard more than 30 miles away – of the chemical plant in Zhangzhou – in Fujian in the southeast of China. It is the second incident in two years in this plant producing paraxylene, a chemical compound used to produce plastic.
There are about 800 firefighters at work and about 170 vehicles were used to tame the flames at the Tenglong Aromatic Hydrocarbon, which has started breathing again for the third time in 2days, since the incident last Monday.
Local authorities in Fujian evacuated about 14 thousand people living in the area of the chemical plant; six people were hospitalized and then discharged, while 13 people are still in the hospital.
The fire was extinguished yesterday afternoon, but the flames started again this morning, after a 1500 tons tank containing fuel burst into flames. It is possible to see it in the CCTV footage. The explosion and chemical compounds in the air made that flame burst again, said local authorities.
